The Blogging Experience

Blogging this past semester has been a very entertaining experience. I have been able to share my ideas with my classmates, get feedback on my writing skills and read what other people have to say. I couldn't have asked for a better way to turn in assignments.

I absolutely loved blogging for English 101. Writing personal stories like "My Playlist, Myself" or "My Favorite Movie" were the easiest and most fun to write. I feel like writing those stories allowed me to open up a lot and expose parts of my personality that I otherwise wouldn't have shared. I also feel like those posts were the most relatable. More informal, less educational posts seem to be better understood by a broad audience, like we had in class.

I think "My Playlist, Myself" was my strongest post. I worked so hard to narrow down my iTunes library into just 6 songs that described me. It was such hard work, but looking back at the result, I'm so proud of what came out of it. Each description of the songs and my personal connection to them is what makes it memorable and my strongest post. I would love to continue to expand a playlist like this as my life goes on, or maybe make one every six months or so, to see what has changed through my music taste.

Although writing about myself was easy, it was a lot more difficult to write about "Crazy Brave" and Joy Harjo's visit to campus. Joy's story was so incredible and I don't know if I did it justice while trying to review it. Listening to her speak that afternoon also put a load of pressure on. She's an incredible woman and trying to narrow her ideas down into 200 or so words is nearly impossible. It was probably my weakest post because I couldn't find the right words to embody this wonderful woman and her unbelievable story.

Blogging for a grade has definitely expanded my writing style. Of course, not all classes will encourage this kind of informal writing. However, being able to write in a more deconstructed way but still having to prove a point has been beneficial. Not all careers rely on research papers with data and statistics. Blogging like this has started to train me to find the best words for the most concise way. That is more suited to my interests than writing research papers.

I am so thankful to have this platform and I genuinely loved this course. Thank you. (:
